Wax Conversation about a Poem You Wrote

“It’s weird, whenever I hear

a poem like that

with a long story

I always think

the author is trying to say something deep,

meaningful — but you didn’t try to do that.

You didn’t go for the cheap shot and

try to make a statement or anything.

I really appreciated that.”

“Well, I, uhh actually, was trying to saying something deep

about the human condition and meaning and existence in general…

but, I guess, it didn’t come across that well.”

“No, what were you trying to say?”

“I was attempting just to say that

man is wax through and through

to his deepest erection and excretion,

            and also that wax

            is a metaphysically confusing condition

because it melts, it changes, and man changes.

That’s what I was trying to express

in my poem using the long story.
